Life Cycles of plants
Grades 1-3
Life Cycles of Plants is a fun and inspiring Environmental Education Program designed for 1st through 3rd grades at the Boardman River Nature Center. This exciting 2 hour program identifies the needs of plants, explores some of the characteristics of plants and looks at how people can positively and negatively impact the life cycles of plants. The program will include hands-on activities in the Nature Center classroom and pavilion, and an expedition on the trails of the Natural Education Reserve. It is designed to get kids outside, introduce them to the wonders of nature, allow them to explore the outdoors, and to participate in an active learning environment. It was developed to inspire exploration, appreciation, and conservation of our natural world.
This program was created specifically for grades 1-3 but can be adapted for other age groups as well.
Life Cycles of Plants will include three components:
The need of plants:
Plants need air, water, soil and light. Plants take nutrients (food) from the soil. Students will explore the needs of plants through hands-on activities.
The life cycle of plants:
The life cycle of familiar flowering plants include seeds, plants, flowers and fruits. Students will use their observation skills to compare the parts of plants and categorize them based on those observations.
Human activity can affect the life cycles of animals and plants.
Human activity can affect plants, both positively and negatively. Students will explore some of the ways that people impact plants and will determine ways to minimize negative impact.
