COMMUNITY sUPPORTED aGRICULTURE aT GLIF

For over 25 years, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has connected consumers with local farmers, providing fresh, seasonal food directly from the farm to the table. The CSA model offers a unique opportunity to support sustainable agriculture while enjoying the best produce each season has to offer.


How it Works

At the Great Lakes Incubator Farm (GLIF), our CSA operates through a membership system. Local consumers purchase a “share” of the farm’s harvest at the beginning of the season. In return, members receive a weekly box of seasonal vegetables. Each box is filled with fresh, organically grown produce harvested at its peak, offering both variety and quality throughout the growing season.

  • GLIF’s weekly or bi-weekly Farm Boxes will be packed with a delicious variety of (7-9 on average) seasonal vegetables and fruits harvested from the Great Lakes Incubator Farm located at the historic Meyer Farm on Keystone Road.

  • Starting: June 17th - October 28th

    Two share sizes to choose from:

    • Sprout Share: Bi-weekly pick-up of a box of fresh organic produce and seasonal fruits

      • 20-week season, 10 total boxes

      • Cost: $350 ($35/box)

      • Pick-up every other week

    • Full-Harvest Share: Weekly pick-up of a box of fresh organic produce and seasonal fruits

      • 20-week season, 20 total boxes

      • Cost: $700 ($35/box)

      • Pick-up every week

    • Pick up schedule: Tuesday’s at Great Lakes Incubator Farm or the Boardman River Nature Center from 4:00 - 6:00pm



    • Hands-On Learning: GLIF training students gain real-world experience in planning, growing, harvesting, and distributing produce for CSA members, preparing them to manage their own farms in the future.

    • Community Connection: CSA members enjoy a direct relationship with the GLIF student farmers who grow their food, building a stronger connection to local agriculture.

    • Fresh, Local Produce: Members receive nutrient-rich, sustainably grown vegetables that support both personal health and environmental stewardship.

  • One of the core principles of the CSA model is the concept of shared risk. By purchasing a share upfront, members invest in the farm’s growing season, providing essential financial support when it’s needed most. In return, farmers do their best to provide abundant, diverse boxes of produce each week. However, because farming is subject to weather and other factors, certain crops may be limited in some seasons. This shared experience fosters a sense of community and understanding - when a hailstorm damages peppers, everyone shares the disappointment, but they also celebrate together when the broccoli and winter squash thrive.
