Life Cycles of animals
Grades 1-3
Life Cycles of Animals is a fun and inspiring Environmental Education Program designed for 1st through 3rd grades at The Boardman River Nature Center. This 2 hour program allows students to explore the life cycles of some familiar Michigan animals. Children will understand that living things grow and change and that the details of these life cycles are different for different organisms. The program will include hands-on activities in the Nature Center classroom and pavilion, and an expedition on the trails of the Natural Education Reserve. It is designed to get kids outside, introduce them to the wonders of nature, and allow them to participate in an active learning environment. It was developed to inspire exploration, appreciation, and conservation of our natural world.
This program was created specifically for grades 1-3 but can be adapted for other age groups as well.
Life Cycles of Animals will include three components:
Both plants and animals begin life and develop into adults, reproduce, and eventually die.
The details of this life cycle are different for different organisms.
In many animals, the young are born or hatch looking just like their parents and go through the stages of egg, young and adult.
In other animals, young are born or hatch and look significantly different than their parents. These animals go through stages of egg, larva, pupa and adult.
Human activity can affect the life cycles of animals and plants.
